Companies are increasingly turning to the cloud

Written by Daniel Schumacher | Nov 5, 2020

Cloud services and digitalized processes form a stable foundation for economic success. This insight is becoming increasingly widespread in German companies. The cloud supports both the solution of current challenges and strategic decisions for the future. It provides companies with the necessary agility in business and IT to react quickly to unexpected events. This strengthens the resilience of companies.

Study identifies role of cloud computing

The market research company IDC asked IT and technical decision-makers from companies with more than 100 employees in Germany about projects, challenges and success factors relating to cloud computing. According to the survey, 46% of companies are in an advanced phase of cloud use. They use various services from the cloud on the basis of a modernized architecture and transferable solution approaches.

Hybrid Cloud and Multi Cloud are gaining ground

In the past two years, the Hybrid Cloud has become increasingly widespread in companies in Germany. 27% of those surveyed stated that they were already using hybrid cloud landscapes in productive scenarios. The Hybrid Cloud is regarded as a suitable environment for meeting regulatory requirements with a private cloud on the one hand and for enabling companies to benefit from the flexibility and scalability of the public cloud on the other. Because of these advantages, the Hybrid Cloud has become an integral part of many IT environments.

More and more companies are using different types of clouds or the services of different cloud providers. 87% of those surveyed said they were operating or planning to operate multi-cloud environments. Multi Cloud will become the dominant delivery model in the coming years.

The data management challenge

Efficient data management is essential for the success of data-driven business models. In practice, however, it has been shown that the integration of data in most companies is in considerable need of improvement. A lack of data consistency, unused evaluation options and costly data processing streams are the most common problems - in on-premise, cloud and hybrid landscapes.

Whether cloud computing will become a lasting success model for a company depends largely on whether it can meet the stakeholders’ expectations and effectively support business initiatives. The hoped-for benefits include greater scalability of the IT infrastructure (35%), faster delivery of solutions (33%) and improved IT security (32%). With the help of the cloud, those responsible are pursuing the goal of making their IT operations more secure and less susceptible to disruption with modern infrastructure and automated processes.

Conclusion: Solutions must fit the requirements

Companies benefit from cloud services in both process optimization and innovation. In view of the continuously growing range of services and rapid technological development, it is important to identify the appropriate solutions for your own requirements. Openness and integration capability play a particularly important role in this respect, in order to be able to seamlessly provide business users with resources and functionalities from internal and external sources. Where the future modernization of IT landscapes is concerned, the cloud will have a firm place in the system architecture.
